Refugee Mother and Child
By Chinua Achebe

The poem is about the caring of a mother for her child. During this poem the poet describes how they both live, which is messy, disgusting and dirty and all the problems and struggles (like infections,etc.) they pass through. Because of these it makes the reader feel pittyfor all their suffering. Although they need to deal with these, the mother is happy and proud. The child is dying but the mother continues caring and protecting him until the last moment (combed his hair to show love and respect) "in her eyes the ghost of a mother´s pride as she combed the rust-colored hair left on his skull". This shows that the actions of a mother are important because they will always be there and make the daughter/son feel safe. When it says "putting flowers on a tiny grave" means that the mother cares about her son because a person puts flowers on a grave because they care and loved the dead. This is why I liked this poem and because it showed a sentimental and suffering side of people that really makes you reflect.

Five Ways to Kill a Man

The poem, like the title says, is about 5 ways to kill a man in different periods of time. First stanza is about how Jesus died, second is how people fought in medieval times, third is WW1, fourth WW2 and the last stanza is about how can a man die alone now. There is a lot of imagery because it´s describing each situation like: "You can make him carry a plank of wood", "whitw horses, english trees, men with bow and arrows", a mile of mud sliced through with ditches", "black boots,bomb craters", etc. It uses some alliterations but its main purpose is to describe how people suffered during time and how easy is to die nowadays, which is why I like this poem, because it is something new, creative and true.

GLORY OF WOMEN
By: Siegfried Sassoon

The peom is about how women and mothers stayed home during war and how they felt. In this poem powerful images are produced like "When hell´s last horror breaks them" and "Trampling the terrible corpses-blind with blood", that tells the reader how horrible is war. Also how mothers feel during war and might think their sons won´t come back, like "You love us when we´re heroes" and "You worship decorations", which also are powerful images. And finally "His face is trodden deeper in the mud", which means that a german soldier is dying and suffering while his mother is knitting, and gives a great impact in the reader. I think it´s powerful poem with a great subject of mothers because it really makes you think of war.

Movie Comment

HI,

I wasnt that surprised about the movie becuase it wasnt that interesting and it wasnt that fun. I would prefer a lot more the TV show. I was expecting the movie to be something better. I would like to see a new movie that has a different plot that works better for the cartoon and grabs the attention from different kids from differrent ages. I know that sponge bob is something for kids but I like cartoons and things for kids.

Summer Book!

This last summer I read a very interesting book that I appreciate more and more when I was going through it. The name of this book is  " The thousand and one nights" that has a arabic origin and many different versions with different stories. Well, this book was about how a woman tries to live by telling his husband stories to make him want more and move her death day to another. Its one of the most interesting books I have read because it contains many strories of mystery, suspense and magic. I personally recomend this book because it will grab your attention and would learn much about history. See you next time and I hope you read this book full of adventures.
